Working on findiso for Debian Live

In the last couple of days I’ve been working on findiso boot parametre for Debian live. Findiso is an originally grml boot parametre which scans all the drives searching for a given iso. Once the iso has been found it loop mounts it and the debian live systems boots up as always.

This is an improvement over the fromiso/isofrom boot parametre which forces you to specify in which drive exactly the iso is found.

Grml is a Debian Live derivative as Rescatux is. Either I had to apply (and maintain) the findiso patch myself or improve it so that it would be accepted into Debian Live. I’ve decided the second option. Just wait a few weeks so that it’s released in unstable and then just use findiso without having to apply any patch.

The findiso parametre will solve the 0.30b4 usb issues.

You can follow the bug status at Add findiso boot parametre debian issue.

There might be some problems for making use of this functionality from grub2 but I’ll deal with that too.
