Hello,
I had a dual boot system (Win XP SP2 and SuSe maybe v8.2) on my Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Pro V2000 laptop, all on one HDD with several partitions. As I don't use Linux that often & urgently needed more disk space, my father just stomped it down by erasing the partition and giving it a new hard drive letter where Linux was on it :/ Now, I still had the bootloader in the beginning where I could choose between both OS, so no trouble yet. Yesterday I decided to defragment my HDD, and after rebooting the system, I've got a blank screen with GRUB _ in the upper left corner. Can't press any keys, tried to boot via CD drive with:

Knoppix (newest & older version), Win XP & Win 2000, Ultimate Boot Disk,

but no reaction except Operating System Not Found. Again no keys working.

Thanks to a recommendation from another forum, I tried to use Super Grub Disk on a USB stick, which even worked! But what I am getting is:

Booting command-list
usbshift
Error 12: Invalid device requested
Press any key to continue...

After that the menu where I can choose between
a) usbshift and
b) configfile (hd0,0)/boot/sgd/sgd.lst
but I'm still getting that same error message.

What should I do now???
I'm not familiar with Linux commands BTW  Cry

BTW if this might help:

I ued Knoppix v6.0.1 to mount and work the USB stick. I typed in the console according to the German wiki:

Code:
cd /media/sda1

tar -xzvf /home/knoppix/Desktop/super_grub_disk_deutsch_usb_0.9795.tar.gz

sudo -s

grub

Then in Grub I typed in:

Code:
device (hd0) /dev/sda

root (hd0,1)

After that, I got the message Filesystem type is fat, partition type 0x6. Then:

Code:
setup (hd0)

quit

I had to rework some parts as I really do not have a clue about Linux commands  Undecided

Try to mount the pendrive from the live cd, edit /boot/sgd/menu.lst, /boot/grub/menu.lst and /boot/grub/sgd.lst and remove the usbshift lines.
Unmount the pendrive. Reboot from the live cd.

After that you should not get an error 12.
See what happens when you try Advanced -> Grub -> Uninstall Grub -> Selecting 2nd Hard Disk (hd1).

Because 1st Hard Disk (hd0) will be your pendrive actually.
