heres an idea... booting Super Grub Disk -with USB drivers, to load a regular ubuntu 8.10 install with grub on a flash drive. i'll get back to you on that, so far this method had only worked on a system that already boots from USB.

adrian15: Grub USB drivers? They do not still exist for Grub legacy.
