Boot Problems (English) / Re: restore Grub fails

Yes, it's better to just copy and paste the lines around CODE tags because pastebin services usually removes old entries.

It's quite strange. Yumi is known to work for most people out there.
You can always try the default method described at the wiki which it's quite scary because it wipes all the drive.

Maybe it's something related to your BIOS.

Does the same usb boot in another PC?

Your usb key installation was faulty because you didn't make sure that grub2 went to the usb key mbr and not the internal mbr.

In such cases what you have to do is boot into Windows and fix its boot from within it.

In order to boot into Windows in such situations you can use Super Grub2 Disk.

P.S.: I know you have solved your problem. It's a general answer.

You can use Super Grub2 Disk to boot into Windows and then try to fix Windows boot from within.

Try to start your Windows from Super Grub2 Disk. It will be easier to fix Windows boot from itself.

If it doesn't work then find another method for fixing Windows boot.

Super Grub(2) Disk (Castellano) / Re: No such partition Grub rescue

Estás usando Super Grub Disk. Usa Super Grub2 Disk mejor. Eso te permitiría en teoría arrancar a Windows.
Desde Windows te será más fácil arreglar su propio arranque.

Super Grub(2) Disk (English) / Re: SGD doesn't see Linux Mint 13 as OS?

To make it a permanent solution either you use Rescatux which implies a 370 MB download or you usually have to run:

Code: [Select]
sudo grub-install /dev/sda
from a terminal.

Rescatux (English) / Re: How to repair GRUB on a partition, *not* the MBR
« Last post by adrian15 on 2013/01/19, 11:13:19 am »
No. Rescapp can't repair Grub2 or Grub into a partition. Grub might be the easiest one to implement.

Grub2 no longer recommends to set it up in a partition so why care? The recommended setup is setting up a so called bios-grub partition which are 2 MB size and then Grub2 detects it and embeds there. Not sure if it does it by default but it surely does when it does not find a place between mbr and first partition to put itself.

Rescatux (English) / Re: Can't read text on monitor
« Last post by adrian15 on 2013/01/19, 11:09:54 am »
Can you tell me where I'm going wrong please? I can't read the text on Rescatux on the monitor I'm using as it's impossibly small - which makes the tool unusable. The  resolution 1920x1024 (a media centre pc). If there are any settings in the tool once it's booted I can't read them! Is there a way around this - or am I the only chap using a HD screen as a monitor?
I've written this for you:
http://rescatux.berlios.de/wiki/Main_Page#How_to_change_resolution . Not sure when a proper menu will be implemented but the keyboard locale should be also set and I might just add it to the grub2 menu such as the old Multidistrox boot menus based on SGD1.

I tried posting earlier, but the post seems to have been wiped and I had to re-register with same name and pw for some reason. Would be grateful for any help.
We have been migrating from hosting twice in the last weeks. Sorry for that.
